Follow-up to #2503. ...names() doesn't work as expected in R4.1.1 and R4.1.2, so we have an ugly workaround that will be simplified by just using ...names().

For reference, this is the item on ...names() in the R4.1.3 BUG FIXES, fixed specifically by r81283.
