Git not working

when i use windows git on mounted drive it doesn't work
on almost every command i get
$ git status fatal: failed to stat '//sshfs/[email protected]/../../': Function not implemented
on git init i get
$ git init fatal: Invalid path '//sshfs/[email protected]/var': No such file or directory

my net use is
$ net use
New connections will be remembered.

Status Local Remote Network

---

         Z:        \\sshfs\[email protected]\..\..
                                            WinFsp.Np

The command completed successfully.

This appears to be a different issue to that, which I've created a solution for (see #53)
