Professor Simon Conroy - Academic Geriatrician - works on frailty in the elderly - based at UCL MRC centre for aging
Dr Danny Bryden : Vice dean of FFICM , based in Sheffield , has done a lot of QI work around frailty and collaborates with Simon on frailty and ICU
Key discussion point
Clinical frailty score ( CFS) not widely used in ICU , cannot be extracted from EHR ( has cognitive and functional components to it) . Validated for > 65 only.
Sheffield ICU has CFS built into its EHR - have years worth of it for ALL ICU admission ( done by admitting clinical)
The young frail patient : Under studied - Simon working in a grant to look at this at a population level
A Geriatrician has attempted to phenotype frailty with ICD-10 : Not much came out of it I have emailed him - would be cool to have a read of his PHD
Future Meetings
Lauren Ferrante : Intensivist from Yale ; Special interest in Geriatric population within ICU - has done work regarding targeted rehabilitation for this population starting witting ICU and post ICU
Zudin Puthucheary : Intensivist RLH : Work on rehabilitation and sarcopenia
