According to this discussion, the FOSS build of Owntracks can't use network location and is entirely dependent on GPS, which of course isn't ideal in many scenarios.

For example, it leads to outdated location updates (the device is shown many hundreds of meters away from its real location) due to GPS reception being bad in the real current location. This happens frequently when going indoors and limits this otherwise very useful app.

I imagine many users running the FOSS flavor are running a flavor of AOSP with microG, which does provide network location. I've seen FOSS apps on F-Droid that do offer network location (Organic Maps, PhoneTrack, etc.). I can confirm that the added convenience of network location being available is immense, as it allows for reliable geolocation indoors and increases battery life.

From a cursory glance at the Organic Maps repo it appears that they added the Fused Location Provider? It is deactivated by default in Organic Maps, which is probably the right way to go for a FOSS build. Would be great if this could be implemented in the Owntracks FOSS build.

Thanks for your time and consideration!
