I like fomuflash, I made a port for micropython of fomuflash, https://github.com/hstarmans/micropythonwebserver/tree/master/fomuflash The problem with a linux raspberry is that it is quite expensive for people who just want to try out an idea. Raspberry has a microcontroller platform but I prefer ESP32 as it adds WIFI.
The library is very limited. I tested communication with a memory chip but did not a flash a binary yet (although this should work).
