LEDs random color flickering #1125

Hi
when the global flickering is starting are all of the leds affected or only starting from the first of these leds you mentioned? for example are the leds at the begining of the led strip (if these are not affected by constant blinking) start to blink then too? who is the manufacturer? |

I had a similar situation a few years ago and the BTF LEDs had to be thrown away, although maybe you'll end up just replacing the faulty LED and at least one more before it (i.e. 2 LEDs) or best of all three (the faulty one + both neighbors). For me, replacing it helped only for a little while because after a few days another LED in a different place got damaged: a manufacturing defect. After replacing the strip with a different company's, these LEDs have been working for a few years without a problem. |

Ok, gonna keep an eye on the LEDs and try to find which one is defective. Also will check the voltage, maybe the power supply is bad |

These damaged LEDs will probably flash even if you set a static color instead of animation, so it will be easy to track them down. If there was something wrong with the voltage, the others would probably cause a problem too, and sk6812 have a fairly wide operating range: +3.5～+5.5. However, if the power supply sporadically delivers some high voltage, it will be hard to detect it. |

I checked, the flashing starts with some specific LED and all LEDs coming after it are flashing as well. During the issue I touched this LED with some force and it stopped for a while. So yeah, definitely a defective LED itself. Gonna try soldering a replacement (or maybe first try to resolder this one, cause it's easier, maybe a loose contact when it heats up) |

Most likely bad soldering at the factory + lead-free tin which is very mechanical fragile. Some of my damaged LEDs behaved like in your case. |

Everything was fine when I built it around 4 months ago. But maybe around 1 month ago some random flicker started appearing. At first it was not very often, now it is appearing more frequently.
The setup is HyperHDR v21, DirectX instance grabber with 720px width (screen is 3440x1440), ESP (WEMOS D1 Mini V4.0.0) running HyperSerialEsp8266, 314 LEDs (SK6812 RGBNW) with power injection at 4 corners, power supply - chinese 5v 20a. Distance between esp and first led is around 20 cm.
The issue - random color blinking of some LEDs. Tried reflashing the ESP, did not help. Tried adding filtering - nothing changes.
It happens during gaming, watching videos (sometimes on dark scenes), but does not happen on static content (like desktop).
I checked the preview during the flickering - everything is ok there, so it's not the capture problem.
Also today I noticed that a couple of leds are blinking even during the boot Plasma effect.
Checked existing discussions, but almost every of them says that the LEDs freeze. Mine do not, they continue to operate but sometimes do flicker and sometimes do not.
